Abstract

The article is devoted to increasing the efficiency of service braking of the car through the use of an internal combustion engine (ICE) with an improved characteristic of the power of mechanical losses, which can give a significant economic effect. During service braking by the braking system in action, the car generally brakes with a constant deceleration, which the driver gets used to; therefore, the inefficient braking by the engine makes him want to use the working braking system and disconnect the engine from the transmission. A method for obtaining the characteristics of the power of mechanical losses in the internal combustion engine providing constant deceleration of the car in gears under service braking is proposed. It is found that to ensure constant deceleration of the car during internal combustion engine braking, it is necessary that the power of mechanical losses during braking is reduced less intensively (only two times) than existing engines (four times). The implementation of the obtained improved characteristics of the power of mechanical losses of internal combustion engines is possible due to increased pump losses of the engine.
