CHAPTER ONE

BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

Introduction

The step of technological change is quick. The new library technologies are available and many  more  are  looming.  It  is  not  possible  that  can  afford  to  adopt  all  the innovation  and technologies Of course, no library can afford to implement each and every innovation once it becomes obtainable. Libraries must have a vision to match with new technologies to user and institutional needs. Libraries  need  to  have  the  aspiration  in  adopting  new  technologies.  Undoubtedlythe implementation costs will be important for any kind of new technologies for all library categories especially academic libraries. Because academic libraries must have the technologies which will meet requirements of the users. Before implementing the new technologies, the feasibility study is very important and need a focus approach that how it will work in the future. Library needs do not implement any technology not only on the basis of what it will do for library users today, but also with the hope that it will grow and change to meet the evolving needs of library users over the next few years. Therefore, technology decisions need to be made with an eye to the future. The booming of technology cannot be stopped by anyone and in any way. Libraries have become early adopters of technologies; letting the patrons be a collaborator rather than a consumer of the services (Goswami & Nisangka, 2014). Emerging technology can be defined as a “technology that is on the cusp of adoption” (Cervone, 2010). Hyper automation, Human augmentation, distributed  cloud  and  Artificial  Intelligence  (AI)  security  are  the  major technology trends in  2020  which  are  predicted  to  be  a  game-changers  in  all  the  fields including libraries (Raiker, 2020). Concerning the absorption of technologies, libraries in the western world stand forefront and even have an upper hand. Many libraries are lagging behind of what west has experimented and introduced. The technological integration in libraries has become the need of the hour to work for a common goal by uniting each one across the world (Chloe, 2018).
