DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR MANUFACTURING FIRM ON STOCK RE-ORDERING (A CASE STUDY OF ST. JOSEPH WATER COMPANY, IKOT EKPENE)
ABSTRACT
This research study focused on decision support system for manufacturing firm on stock re-ordering using St. Joseph Water Company in Ikot Ekpene as a case study. The research work was necessary because of the problems of the existing system which are absence of a decision support system for manufacturing firm, manufacturing firms running out of stock, leading to hasty buying because of absence of a decision support system to manage their stock and inventory information, the discrepancy between the information provided by stock control ledger card and the actual physical stock balance, need for a decision support system for inventory management to avoid unnecessary tying down of funds as well as loss in fund due to pilferage, spoilage and obsolescence of stock. The specific objectives are to implement decision support system to enable the effective monitoring of stock levels, to create a decision support system that will facilitate decision making on the production of more stock, to provide a system that will aid in presentation of reports for timely decision making. The significance of the research work are it will enable the management of the manufacturing company, to effectively manage their manufacturing records, it will provide useful information that will aid them make a decision on when to reorder for a product that has reached the set re-order level. the software development methodology used is spiral model. The programming Language used is Visual BASIC 6.0 and the database used is Microsoft Access.
