ABSTRACT This research work was on effectiveness of community newspaper, the bell on community development, a survey of resident of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. It is certain that community newspaper which abounds in the area have effectively influenced community development in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. The research was anchored on the development media theory, which proposes that the media should pay a focus attention to news programmes that will enhance development and interest of government. To accomplish the objectives, the study adopted a systematic sampling procedure. The major instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire, a sub-sample drawn from 6 major villages considered for this study. After the administration of the questionnaire, 384 were returned and found useful for the study. The findings from this study show that the people of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area have access to community newspaper. Since it as effectively influence community development in the area. It was however recommended that the media houses should make community newspapers to be available for the rural dwellers to have access to it.
