Abstract:

The concept of eco-tourism, fundamental to the advancement of sustainable tourism in developing nations, has emerged as a potent driver of economic progress. The eco-tourist resort paradigm revolves around destinations that emphasize the exploration and habitation of natural environs to facilitate education, environmentally conscious activities, and nature-centric experiences. This brand of tourism fosters economic and social growth within local communities, leading to sustainable tourism practices.

This thesis conducts a comprehensive examination of Nigerian eco-tourist resorts and the degree to which they incorporate elements of landform and cultural design. Employing a descriptive research approach, the study employs techniques such as observation schedules, interviews, thorough literature reviews, and the purposeful selection of five distinct eco-resorts within Nigeria.

The research findings conclude that Nigerian eco-resorts have indeed integrated crucial landform and cultural design aspects. These encompass a fusion of traditional and modern building materials, strategic resort layouts that prioritize landscape preservation and scenic vistas, and the incorporation of cultural components evident in the adornment of the selected eco-resorts. However, a state of equilibrium has yet to be fully realized.

Moreover, the study develops a design proposal based on its findings, which integrates landscape and cultural elements within an eco-tourist resort located in Miango, Plateau State, Nigeria. Consequently, the imperative to implement recycling measures within eco-resorts and establish areas dedicated to cultural exhibitions emerges, aiming to curtail environmental impact while maximizing benefits for the local populace. Additionally, the proposal advocates for harmonious designs deeply rooted in the local context.
