ABSTRACT
This study examines Nigeria – South Africa bilateral relations from 2000 – 2017 and indicates that inspite of the shared historical experiences, the Nigeria – South Africa bilateral relations is challenged by numerous issues on their political, economic and socio – cultural engagements. It is argued that even with the gaint strides recorded based on Nigeria’s and South Africa’s economic might to lead Africa in the new century, issues of xenophobia, competition, political corruption and poor economic policies have undermined progress in Nigeria – South Africa relations. Information for this study were gathered from secondary sources which were analysed and integrated into the content analysis and conclusions were drawn with enduring recommendations. Nevertheless, the need for increased cooperation and the promotion of the pan-African ideals was emphasized for a harmonious bilateral cooperation and integration in Africa.
