ABSTRACT

This thesis entitled “the image of childhood in Allah n’est pas obligé by Ahmadou Kourouma and Contours du jour qui vient by Léonora Miano” analyzes childhood problems represented in the two novels. The study examines some structures that affect the cognitive and physical development of the child. We use socio -criticism, developed by Claude Duchet, as our theoretical framework. The thesis identifies the relationship between the child and the family, a relationship which weakens more and more due to environmental influences. The child represented in the two novels plays important roles which draw the attention of the reader. Also, the work identifies the negative influence of the environment on the child especially in war zone countries. Again the study focuses on how childhood problems are presented by Ahmadou Kourouma and Léonora Miano. Finally, the work examines the right of children and some child protection agencies which advocate the welfare of the child in war countries for a better future for the African continent through literature.
