ABSTRACT

This research project investigates the utilization of modern technologies for the development of employability skills among Office Management and Technology (OMT) students in Delta State universities. The study aims to explore the integration of modern technologies in the curriculum to enhance students’ proficiency in technological tools and their overall employability in the contemporary workplace.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The research objectives include assessing the current state of employability skills among OMT students, examining the role of modern technologies in developing these skills, identifying the challenges and barriers to the integration of modern technologies in the OMT curriculum, and proposing strategies for effective implementation and utilization of modern technologies for enhancing employability skills.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the use of modern technologies for the development of employability skills among OMT students. The research will assess the current level of employability skills among OMT students, including skills in technology literacy, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Additionally, the research will explore the role of modern technologies, such as office productivity tools, project management software, virtual collaboration platforms, and digital communication tools, in developing these skills. Furthermore, the research will identify the challenges and barriers faced by OMT students and educators in integrating modern technologies into the curriculum, such as limited access to technology, inadequate training, and resistance to change. The research will propose strategies and recommendations for effective implementation and utilization of modern technologies, including the incorporation of hands-on practical exercises, industry partnerships, and professional development initiatives for educators.

The implications of this research extend to OMT students, educators, employers, and policymakers. The findings will inform OMT students about the importance of developing employability skills through the utilization of modern technologies, providing them with a competitive edge in the job market. Educators can utilize the research findings to update and enhance the OMT curriculum, integrating modern technologies and aligning it with industry needs. Employers can benefit from the research findings by understanding the significance of employability skills developed through modern technologies, guiding recruitment and selection processes. Policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating policies and initiatives to promote the integration of modern technologies in higher education, fostering a technologically skilled workforce.

In conclusion, this research project investigates the utilization of modern technologies for the development of employability skills among OMT students in Delta State universities. By integrating modern technologies into the curriculum, stakeholders can ensure that OMT students are equipped with the necessary skills to excel in the contemporary workplace
