ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurship has emerged as a critical driver of economic growth and employment generation. In Enugu State, Nigeria, the promotion of entrepreneurial skills acquisition through business education programs in public tertiary institutions plays a vital role in preparing individuals for self-employment opportunities. This research project aims to explore the strategies and effectiveness of business education programs in Enugu State public tertiary institutions for promoting entrepreneurial skills acquisition and fostering self-employment.

A mixed-methods research approach will be employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The research objectives include assessing the current business education curriculum, evaluating the effectiveness of entrepreneurial skills training, examining the perceptions and experiences of students regarding the impact of the program on self-employment readiness, and identifying potential areas for improvement.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the strategies and effectiveness of business education programs in promoting entrepreneurial skills acquisition for self-employment. The research will shed light on the curriculum content, teaching methods, and resources available within public tertiary institutions, assess the perceived effectiveness of entrepreneurial skills training, and explore the experiences and perspectives of students in relation to their readiness for self-employment.

The implications of this research extend to curriculum developers, educators, policymakers, and aspiring entrepreneurs. The findings will inform curriculum developers and educators about the strengths and weaknesses of current business education programs, enabling them to enhance curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and resource allocation to better promote entrepreneurial skills acquisition. Policymakers can utilize the research findings to develop policies that support and strengthen business education programs, fostering an enabling environment for self-employment and entrepreneurship. Aspiring entrepreneurs can benefit from the research findings by gaining insights into the effectiveness of business education programs and identifying areas for personal development to enhance their readiness for self-employment.

In conclusion, this research project aims to explore the strategies and effectiveness of business education programs in Enugu State public tertiary institutions for promoting entrepreneurial skills acquisition and self-employment. By understanding the perspectives and experiences of students, stakeholders can work collaboratively to enhance business education programs, thereby equipping individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue successful self-employment ventures
