George R. Moscone is located in the historic Mission District. We service our multi-ethnic students with programs in Chinese, Spanish, and English Language Development. Federal funding augments the classroom program, for targeted students, with resource teachers, paraprofessionals, and materials. The District’s Core Curriculum is supplemented by our Computer Lab, emphasizing written communication skills and computer literacy. Every classroom has computers and is linked to the Internet. Parents and community volunteers are welcome and support the school by volunteering in the library, classrooms, field trips, special events, and fundraising. There are on-site parent workshops using community resources and speakers. The English/Spanish/Chinese weekly Newsletter includes a letter from the principal and a relevant calendar of events. At Moscone, emphasis is placed on developing the student’s positive self image which promotes personal and academic growth, as evidenced by our low suspension rate. The school has a Wellness Grant which provides a part-time nurse and counselor. In addition, we have an on site nutritionist working with teachers, students and parents. The Hills Project brings professional, community artists into our school, providing special performing/visual art enrichment for students. The Sierra Club Grant provides outdoor education for all students. Multicultural education is an integral part of this program. We have a music program for grades 4 & 5. Good citizenship is encouraged through the election of a student council, the Peer Helper Program, monthly award programs, and a School Uniform Policy. The staff works closely with students and parents to maintain our beautiful new school site. Our goal is a productive, safe and secure school environment.Â
