ABSTRACT
The project was conducted to assess the environmental consequence of quarrying on soil old Netim village, Akamkpa Local Government Area, Cross River State. Quarry activities are principally carried out by quarry industry which began operation since man began to build in stone, quarrying is engage in the produce of stone aggregate/chipping of different dimension, 15-22, 15-53, stone dust and hard care building and construction within and outside the state, in an attempt to assess the effect of these activities specific research questions were floated as follows: does quarrying activities affect soil nutrient, does land degradation associate with quarrying activities, is there any relationship between quarrying activities and the soil, are there other defect associated with quarry on soil, one research hypotheses were postulated in line with the above problem, worth of notable authors where consulted for validation of information, both primary and secondary methods of data collection were employed for this purpose, primary method involved personal observation, interview and questionnaire, while secondary relied on review of literature related to the study. In the analysis and description of collection of collected data, chi-square (X2) test of statistic was employed, the findings made after testing the hypothesis there was an r value of 11.92, indicating that there is a significant relationship between quarrying activities and the soil nutrient of the study.The research further recommended that the government should strongly enforce all the enacted laws to control other anthropogenic activities within the area.Â
