ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the influence of business educators’ ICT skills and the availability of a functional ICT laboratory on students’ ICT skills acquisition in Federal College of Education (Tech), located in Ondo State, Nigeria. In today’s digital era, ICT skills are essential for students’ academic and professional development. This study seeks to explore the extent to which business educators’ ICT skills impact students’ ICT skills acquisition, examine the role of a functional ICT laboratory in enhancing students’ ICT skills, identify specific ICT skills taught by educators, and propose recommendations for improving ICT integration in business education.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and classroom observations to collect data from business educators and students in Federal College of Education (Tech). The research objectives include assessing the influence of business educators’ ICT skills on students’ ICT skills acquisition, examining the role of a functional ICT laboratory, identifying specific ICT skills taught by educators, and proposing strategies for enhancing ICT integration in business education.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the influence of business educators’ ICT skills and the availability of a functional ICT laboratory on students’ ICT skills acquisition. The research will assess the extent to which business educators’ ICT skills impact students’ acquisition of various ICT skills, such as computer literacy, internet navigation, software applications, data analysis, and digital communication. Additionally, the study will explore the role of a functional ICT laboratory in providing students with hands-on experience and practical application of ICT skills. Furthermore, the research will identify specific ICT skills taught by business educators, including instructional strategies, resources, and assessment methods employed. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for improving ICT integration in business education, encompassing faculty development programs, infrastructure enhancement, curriculum revision, and pedagogical approaches.

The implications of this research extend to business educators, students, educational institutions, and policymakers. The findings will provide business educators with insights into the impact of their ICT skills on students’ ICT skills acquisition, encouraging them to enhance their own competencies and pedagogical approaches. Students can benefit from the research findings by understanding the importance of ICT skills and actively engaging in learning opportunities provided by educators and the ICT laboratory. Educational institutions can utilize the research findings to inform resource allocation and infrastructure development to create a conducive ICT learning environment. Policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating policies and guidelines for integrating ICT in business education, ensuring the provision of quality ICT education.
