ABSTRACT

This research project aims to explore the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ employment prospects in Nigeria. The study seeks to investigate the impact of work-based learning programs, such as internships, apprenticeships, and cooperative education, on students’ employability skills, job readiness, and overall employment outcomes.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys and interviews. The research objectives include assessing the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ acquisition of employability skills, examining the perceived impact of work-based learning on students’ job readiness, exploring the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ successful transition into employment, and identifying the factors that mediate or moderate the relationship between work-based learning and employment prospects.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ employment prospects in Nigeria. The research will assess the perceived impact of work-based learning programs on students’ acquisition of employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. Additionally, the research will examine how work-based learning enhances students’ job readiness, such as their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, develop industry-specific competencies, and build professional networks. Furthermore, the research will explore the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ successful transition into employment, considering factors such as access to job opportunities, increased employability, and career advancement. The research will also investigate potential mediators or moderators, such as program quality, duration, and industry relevance, that may affect the relationship between work-based learning and employment prospects.

The implications of this research extend to educational institutions, employers, policymakers, and students. The findings will inform educational institutions about the benefits of integrating work-based learning programs into their curriculum to enhance students’ employability and improve their employment prospects. Employers can utilize the research findings to understand the value of work-based learning experiences in developing job-ready graduates and shaping their recruitment strategies. Policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating policies and initiatives that promote work-based learning as a means to bridge the gap between education and employment in Nigeria. Students can benefit from the research findings by understanding the perceived influence of work-based learning on their employment prospects, encouraging their active participation in such programs to enhance their career prospects.

In conclusion, this research project investigates the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ employment prospects in Nigeria. By understanding the perceived impact of work-based learning programs, stakeholders can enhance the design and implementation of such initiatives, facilitating students’ successful transition into the workforce and improving overall employment outcomes
