ABSTRACT
This research project aims to explore the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ employment prospects in Nigeria. The study seeks to investigate the impact of work-based learning programs, such as internships, apprenticeships, and cooperative education, on students’ employability skills, job readiness, and overall employment outcomes.
A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys and interviews. The research objectives include assessing the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ acquisition of employability skills, examining the perceived impact of work-based learning on students’ job readiness, exploring the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ successful transition into employment, and identifying the factors that mediate or moderate the relationship between work-based learning and employment prospects.
The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the perceived influence of work-based learning on students’ employment prospects in Nigeria. The research will assess the perceived impact of work-based learning programs on students’ acquisition of employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. The research will also investigate potential mediators or moderators, such as program quality, duration, and industry relevance, that may affect the relationship between work-based learning and employment prospects.
The implications of this research extend to educational institutions, employers, policymakers, and students. The findings will inform educational institutions about the benefits of integrating work-based learning programs into their curriculum to enhance students’ employability and improve their employment prospects.
