In the digital age, e-commerce has become a crucial aspect of business operations, particularly for small scale businesses. Business education graduates need to possess the necessary e-commerce competencies to effectively manage and thrive in the digital marketplace. This research project aims to identify and explore the e-commerce competencies required of business education graduates for the successful management of small scale businesses.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The research objectives include identifying the key e-commerce competencies essential for managing small scale businesses, assessing the current level of e-commerce competencies among business education graduates, exploring the challenges faced by graduates in acquiring and applying e-commerce competencies, and identifying strategies to enhance the development and application of e-commerce competencies among business education graduates.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the e-commerce competencies required of business education graduates for the management of small scale businesses. The research will identify specific skills and knowledge areas, such as online marketing, website development, digital payment systems, customer relationship management, and data analytics, that are vital for success in the e-commerce landscape. It will assess the current level of e-commerce competencies among graduates, shed light on the challenges they face in acquiring and applying these competencies, and propose strategies to enhance their development.

The implications of this research extend to business education curriculum developers, educators, policymakers, and small scale business owners. The findings will inform curriculum developers and educators about the essential e-commerce competencies that need to be incorporated into business education programs, enabling them to better equip graduates for the digital business environment. Policymakers can utilize the research findings to develop policies that support the integration of e-commerce competencies into business education curricula.
