INFLUENCE OF SUPERVISION OF INSTRUCTIONS ON CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN AGBANI EDUCATION ZONE OF ENUGU STATE

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the influence of supervision of instruction on classroom management of secondary school teachers’ in Agbani Education zone of Enugu state. The research was guide by four research questions and four hypotheses. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. This study was conducted in Agbani Education zone which is 300 respondents. There was no sampling since all the population was used for the study. The instrument was titled Influence of Supervision of Instruction on Classroom Management of Secondary School Teachers in Agbani Zone (ISCMSSTAZ). Cronchbach’s Alpha Reliability Coefficient method was used to calculate the reliability estimate of (ISICMSTAZ). The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses were tested using t-test. The results from the data analyzed revealed that; supervision of instructions to a high extent influences classroom climate, supervision of instruction influences teachers’ classroom control to a high extent, supervision of utilization of adequate instructional materials in classroom control instructions, supervision of instructions to a high extent influences the utilization of adequate instructions, supervision of instructions to a high extent influences the utilization of adequate instructional materials in classroom instructions, supervision of instructions influences teachers’ method of teaching to a high extent, there was a significant difference between the mean ratings of principals and vice principals o the extent to which supervision of instructions influences classroom climate in favour of vice principals on the extent to which supervision of instructions influences teachers’ classroom control in favour of vice principals, there is a significant difference between the mean ratings of principals and vice principals, there is a significant difference between the mean ratings of principals and vice principals on the extent to which supervision of instructions influences the utilization f instructional materials in favour of vice principals, there is a significant difference between the mean ratings of principals and vice principals on the extent to which supervision of instruction influences teachers’ method of teaching in favour of vice principals. The educational implications were pointed out and recommendations were made that government should fund schools adequately, and that principals and vice principals should supervise their staff which is one of the strategies to achieve effective teaching and learning in our schools among others.
