ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the manager’s assessment of skills required for the successful management of businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Delta State. The COVID-19 pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges to businesses worldwide, requiring managers to possess specific skills to navigate the crisis effectively. This study seeks to explore the skills that managers in Delta State perceive as crucial for successfully managing businesses during the pandemic, examine their assessment of the effectiveness of these skills, identify challenges faced in acquiring and applying these skills, and propose recommendations for enhancing managerial skills in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and case studies to collect data from managers in various industries in Delta State. The research objectives include identifying the skills perceived as important for successful business management during the pandemic, assessing the effectiveness of these skills, exploring the challenges encountered in acquiring and applying these skills, and proposing recommendations for improving managerial skills.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the skills required for successful business management amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Delta State. The research will identify specific skills that managers perceive as crucial, such as crisis management, adaptability, digital literacy, communication, remote team management, financial management, and strategic planning. Additionally, the study will assess the effectiveness of these skills in enabling managers to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic and maintain business continuity. Furthermore, the research will explore the challenges faced by managers in acquiring and applying these skills, including limited resources, lack of training opportunities, resistance to change, and uncertainty in the business environment. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for enhancing managerial skills, encompassing training programs, knowledge sharing platforms, collaboration among businesses, and policy support.
