IMPACT OF MOTHERS ON THE PROMOTION OF READING HABIT OF THEIR CHILDREN (EDUCATION PROJECT TOPICS AND MATERIALS)
ABSTRACT
This research work deals with impact of mother on the promotion of reading habit or children in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The main purpose of this research work were to investigates the problems facing pupils who are learning to read and speak correct grammar effectively and to provide solution to poor reading among pupils in primary schools. Many related literature were reviewed the method used in the collection of the data was likert formal of questionnaire and the data collected were later analyzed using simple statistical method from the findings. It was clearly shown that mothers are or was in the best position to promote good reading habit of their children in primary schools. Although the following factors poverty, indiscipline act, occupation of mothers, death, libraries, lack of reading language were imitating mothers to promote good reading habit. From the result obtained, the researcher recommended that mothers should serve as role model to their children by reading always and to guide their children in setting a workable reading time table. Furthermore, government should improve the condition of economic situation of this country by providing employment opportunity for the parents. Finally, mothers should try as much as possible to promote good reading habits in order to improve the academic performance of their children.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study
The ability to read is one of the determinant of student success or failure in school. A good reader has a better opportunity for grater achievement. As posited by Karlin (1964) quoted by Unoti (1995), achievement in reading is necessary to achievement is school and when no prevision is made for achievement by the poor reader that reader eventually is frustrated into miserable state or failure.
