ABSTRACT

The effective teaching of business education courses in higher institutions requires lecturers to possess relevant training skills that go beyond subject matter expertise. This research project aims to identify the training skills needed by business education lecturers in Kogi State, Nigeria, for the effective teaching of business education courses.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The research objectives include identifying the essential training skills required by business education lecturers, exploring the perceived effectiveness of current training programs, assessing the gaps and challenges in acquiring these skills, and proposing strategies for enhancing the training of business education lecturers.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the relevant training skills needed by business education lecturers for effective teaching. The research will identify the essential training skills required by business education lecturers, encompassing pedagogical knowledge, instructional strategies, assessment techniques, classroom management, technology integration, and professional development. It will explore the perceived effectiveness of current training programs in equipping lecturers with these skills, considering factors such as content relevance, delivery methods, and follow-up support. Additionally, the research will assess the gaps and challenges in acquiring these skills, such as limited access to training opportunities, lack of resources, and time constraints. It will propose strategies for enhancing the training of business education lecturers, including the development of comprehensive training programs, collaboration with industry professionals, mentorship programs, and the integration of technology-based training platforms.

The implications of this research extend to higher institutions, business education departments, lecturers, curriculum developers, and policymakers in Kogi State, Nigeria. The findings will inform higher institutions and business education departments about the training needs of their lecturers, enabling them to design and implement targeted professional development programs. Lecturers can utilize the research findings to assess their own training needs and seek opportunities for professional growth. Curriculum developers can consider the findings when designing and updating business education curricula to align with the required training skills. Policymakers can use the research findings to develop policies that support the provision of adequate training resources for business education lecturers.

In conclusion, this research project aims to identify the relevant training skills needed by business education lecturers for effective teaching of business education courses in higher institutions in Kogi State, Nigeria. By addressing the training needs of lecturers, stakeholders can enhance the quality of business education instruction and ultimately contribute to the development of skilled business professionals
