Abstract

The article is devoted to an actual problem of fundamental importance of the development of the country’s economy – the evaluation of education levels in the countries of the world and intercountry differences in the basic characteristics of education. The article deals with the composition of education indexes contained in the Human Development Report published by the United Nations, as well as its changes for the period from 2010 to 2018. A composite education index for each country was calculated. Regression models were built to assess the impact of education levels on countries’ GDP. Quartile grouping of countries of the world according to the value of the composite education index was carried out to identify groups of countries that are homogeneous by the level of education development. The article analyzes the differences in indexes characterizing the education of the population by groups of countries in terms of the level of human development. Special attention in the article is paid to the comparative characteristics of the rankings of countries in the world in terms of indexes characterizing education in 2010 and 2018. Tabular and graphical methods of analysis, grouping method, regression analysis, as well as the method of building an integral index are used in the analysis. The results obtained in the research can be useful for statisticians, economists and sociologists in conducting research.
