ABSTRACT

This research project aims to explore the gaps in training and practice among Office Technology and Management (OTM) students. As the demand for skilled office professionals increases, it is crucial to assess the adequacy of the training provided to OTM students and evaluate their preparedness for the workplace. This study seeks to identify the gaps in training and practice among OTM students, examine the factors contributing to these gaps, assess the impact of these gaps on their employability and job performance, and propose recommendations for bridging the identified gaps to enhance the effectiveness of OTM education.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and observations to collect data from OTM students, educators, employers, and industry professionals. The research objectives include identifying the gaps in training and practice among OTM students, exploring the factors contributing to these gaps, assessing the impact of these gaps on their employability and job performance, and proposing recommendations for bridging the identified gaps to enhance the effectiveness of OTM education.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the gaps in training and practice among OTM students. The research will identify specific areas where students may lack sufficient training, such as technological proficiency, communication skills, organizational management, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Additionally, the study will examine the factors contributing to these gaps, including curriculum design, teaching methods, resource availability, and industry relevance. Furthermore, the research will assess the impact of these gaps on students’ employability and job performance, considering factors such as job readiness, job satisfaction, and career advancement. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for bridging the identified gaps, encompassing curriculum enhancement, industry collaborations, experiential learning opportunities, and faculty development.

The implications of this research extend to OTM students, educators, employers, professional associations, and policymakers. The findings will provide OTM students with insights into the gaps in their training and practice, guiding their personal and professional development efforts and enabling them to address the identified deficiencies. Educators can utilize the research findings to enhance the curriculum and teaching methodologies, ensuring students receive the necessary training and practical skills required in the workplace. Employers can benefit from the research findings by understanding the gaps and tailoring their recruitment strategies, training programs, and job expectations accordingly. Professional associations can utilize the research findings to develop relevant certification programs and standards that align with industry requirements. Policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating policies and initiatives that promote the quality and effectiveness of OTM education.

In conclusion, this research project explores the gaps in training and practice among OTM students. By identifying these gaps, examining contributing factors, assessing their impact, and proposing recommendations, stakeholders can bridge the identified gaps, enhancing the effectiveness of OTM education and improving the employability and job performance of OTM graduates
