ABSTRACT

In today’s dynamic economic landscape, entrepreneurship training has become increasingly important in equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge for self-sustainability. This research project aims to examine the utilization of entrepreneurship training opportunities by students for self-sustainability, focusing on the case of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The research objectives include assessing the awareness and participation of students in entrepreneurship training programs, exploring the factors influencing their utilization of these opportunities, examining the impact of entrepreneurship training on students’ self-sustainability, and identifying strategies for improving the utilization of such training among students.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the utilization of entrepreneurship training opportunities by students for self-sustainability. The research will assess the awareness and participation levels of students in entrepreneurship training programs at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede. It will explore the factors influencing their utilization of these opportunities, such as students’ perceptions, motivations, access to resources, and institutional support. Additionally, the research will examine the impact of entrepreneurship training on students’ self-sustainability, including their entrepreneurial intentions, business startups, income generation, and employment outcomes. It will identify strategies for improving the utilization of entrepreneurship training among students, including targeted awareness campaigns, mentoring programs, networking opportunities, and the integration of practical hands-on experiences into the curriculum.

The implications of this research extend to students, educators, administrators, policymakers, and entrepreneurship training providers at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, and similar institutions. The findings will inform students about the importance of entrepreneurship training and the opportunities available for their self-sustainability. Educators can utilize the research findings to enhance the design and delivery of entrepreneurship training programs, ensuring their relevance and effectiveness. Administrators can use the research findings to allocate resources and support mechanisms to promote entrepreneurship education and maximize student participation. Policymakers can benefit from the research findings by developing policies that encourage the integration of entrepreneurship training into the curriculum and providing incentives for students to engage in entrepreneurial activities. Entrepreneurship training providers can examine the research findings to tailor their programs and services to meet the specific needs of students at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
