ABSTRACT

This research project focuses on investigating the prevalence and factors associated with Office Work-Related Musculo-Skeletal Disorders (OWRMSD) among secretarial professionals in Ekiti State Government establishments. The study aims to examine the ergonomic factors, work-related behaviors, and individual characteristics that contribute to the development of musculo-skeletal disorders in the office work environment.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys, interviews, and ergonomic assessments. The research objectives include assessing the prevalence and types of OWRMSD among secretarial professionals, identifying the ergonomic risk factors and work-related behaviors that contribute to the development of OWRMSD, exploring the impact of OWRMSD on the well-being and productivity of secretarial professionals, and proposing strategies for prevention and intervention to mitigate OWRMSD in the workplace.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the prevalence and factors associated with OWRMSD among secretarial professionals in Ekiti State Government establishments. The research will assess the prevalence and types of OWRMSD, such as neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome, among secretarial professionals. Additionally, the research will identify the ergonomic risk factors, including poorly designed workstations, prolonged sitting, repetitive tasks, and inadequate breaks, that contribute to the development of OWRMSD. Furthermore, the research will explore the impact of OWRMSD on the well-being and productivity of secretarial professionals, including the physical discomfort, reduced work performance, and absenteeism associated with these disorders. The research will provide recommendations for prevention and intervention strategies, such as ergonomic training, workstation modifications, regular breaks, and exercise programs, to mitigate OWRMSD and promote a healthier work environment.

The implications of this research extend to secretarial professionals, employers, occupational health practitioners, and policymakers. The findings will raise awareness among secretarial professionals about the risks and consequences of OWRMSD, promoting self-care practices and proactive measures to prevent or manage these disorders. Employers can utilize the research findings to implement ergonomic interventions and workplace policies that prioritize employee well-being and reduce the incidence of OWRMSD. Occupational health practitioners can benefit from the research findings by developing tailored interventions and providing guidance on ergonomics and workplace wellness programs. Policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating regulations and guidelines to promote ergonomics and protect the health of office workers in Ekiti State.
