ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the digital skills possessed by business education graduates in Imo State, Nigeria, and examine the implications for curriculum re-organization and diversification. The study seeks to assess the current level of digital skills among graduates, identify gaps and challenges in their digital competence, explore strategies for integrating digital skills into the curriculum, and propose recommendations for enhancing the digital preparedness of business education graduates.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, incorporating surveys, interviews, and skills assessments. The research objectives include assessing the digital skills of business education graduates, identifying gaps and challenges in their digital competence, exploring effective strategies for integrating digital skills into the curriculum, and proposing recommendations for curriculum re-organization and diversification.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the digital skills of business education graduates and their implications for curriculum development. The research will assess the current level of digital skills among graduates, encompassing proficiency in basic computer operations, digital communication, information literacy, data analysis, and online collaboration. Additionally, the research will identify gaps and challenges in their digital competence, such as limited access to technology, inadequate training opportunities, and a lack of alignment between curriculum content and industry demands. Furthermore, the research will explore effective strategies for integrating digital skills into the curriculum, including the adoption of experiential learning approaches, the incorporation of real-world projects, the use of digital tools and platforms, and the integration of industry partnerships. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for curriculum re-organization and diversification, encompassing the revision of course content, the inclusion of digital skills as core competencies, the establishment of digital skills training programs, and the enhancement of industry collaborations.

The implications of this research extend to business education institutions, curriculum developers, educational policymakers, and business organizations. The findings will inform institutions about the current digital skills landscape among business education graduates, guiding them in designing targeted interventions and programs to enhance graduates’ digital readiness. Curriculum developers can utilize the research findings to re-organize and diversify the business education curriculum, ensuring the integration of relevant digital skills that align with industry needs. Educational policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating policies and initiatives that promote digital skills development in business education. Business organizations can benefit from the research findings by understanding the digital skills gaps among graduates and collaborating with educational institutions to bridge those gaps through internships, mentorship programs, and industry-relevant projects
