ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research work was focused on the impact of Covid-19 on the progress of construction projects in Eket region of Akwa Ibom State. The construction industry plays significant roles in the country’s economic development and growth on before the emergence of this pandemic Covid-19 which has eluded the construction projects with its negative impact leading to numerous abandonment in Eket. The major objectives of the research were to identify the problems caused by Covid-19, to determine strategies that can address Covid-19’s negative impact of progress in construction projects. The suitable approaches for this research were the uses of data collection and analysis using quantitative statistical tools such as; frequency, distribution table and percentage score. The study adopted a census sampling technique; the study used a sample size of 85 questionnaire were distributed accordingly and 80 questionnaires were returned and used for analysis. The research finding revealed that Covid-19 has negative impact on the progress of construction projects in Eket, Akwa Ibom State such as government  policy (lockdown), financial constraint, time constraint, migrants etc. It was concluded that there certain measures that can be used to cushion its effects like policy making by the government that would be favourable to construction projects, funds release by government (grants, non-interest loans) etc. Therefore, in conclusion, precautionary measures can be taken or applied in subsequent occurrence. The researcher recommended the use of precautionary measures which is not tied down to the government alone but to other private or public sectors in construction engineering.
